Schedule

In general, we will have either a practice or a game on Monday or Wednesday evening, and a game on Saturday morning. First game of the season is December 7. Events are held at various AISD school gyms, particularly Murchison and Lamar, through the holidays. We may play elsewhere after the holidays.

Homework

We encourage parents to spend at least 15 minutes each day with their players practicing basic skills: dribbling, passing, layups. How you do this is up to you, but make it fun. Simple things that emphasize fun, and strengthen your player's love of the game and their proficiency.

Snack Schedule

TBD. Each family is expected to provide a post-game snack for the team at one game. If you are able, consider bringing enough for the younger sibings of our players also.

Rules

The rules we are playing under are provided by NWAYBA, and are to encourage fun, sportsmanship, and learning. Some specific rules to be aware of:

We will play 5 players on the "A" team, and 5 on the "B" team. Each team will play two quarters, alternating, so everyone plays the same amount of time. There are strict substitution rules in the event we or our opposing team have players missing, so as to keep the court balanced.
No Zone Defenses. All teams plan man-to-man defense.
No Double-Teaming (except in the paint). At this age level, players are often better on defense than offense. This gives offensive players a fighting chance.

Parent Behavior

We expect parents to behave themselves at all times. If you have concerns about anything, you can raise them with Matt or Dave privately, or if about one of us, with the Rookie Commissioner (above).
